Here is an article I was commissioned to write by Global Banking in the early 90s on what was then the emerging discipline of Change Management. I came across it the other day in some old files and thought, “Hmm. Still some relevant thoughts here!” And not just for the financial sector – for ALL sectors.

The specific changes each organisation requires will be different, but the broad shifts that need to be made are crystal clear. For example, structures will need to move from hierarchical to more network-orientated; a more inclusive approach to solving problems will need to be cultivated in preference to an autocratic, didactic style, and leadership will need to be more inspiring than dogmatic.
Most importantly, organisations will have to accept change is a process – not an event or a magic show – and what needs to be achieved will not happen overnight.
